The WWE Hardcore Championship is a hardcore wrestling championship in WWE (formerly the World Wrestling Federation) and is contested under "hardcore" rules (no disqualifications, no countouts, and pinfalls count anywhere). In the latter part of the title's history, a rule was implemented allowing anyone to challenge the champion at any place or time, provided a referee was present (dubbed the "24/7 Rule"). The championship was retired by the WWE on August 26, 2002 after four years but the new owners of the WWE brought it back in May 2015. After the title was brought back James Harrison announced that it would be the only championship that both the men and the women could both fight for. Due to the 24/7 rule the title can be won by any male wrestler regardless of brand.
